Chapter Eight: Someone Bragged on Gu Dao's Behalf
The gatekeeper, a man named Chu Mao, was the son of Gu Dao’s wet nurse.
Having been nursed by the same woman, they were what people commonly called milk brothers.
The moment he confirmed it was indeed Gu Dao, the eyes of the two-meter-tall man turned red. He grabbed Gu Dao and pulled him inside the gate, shouting at the top of his lungs as they ran:
"Mother! Uncle Guan! Everyone, come quickly and see! Who is this? Look who has returned!"
A group of elderly people slowly emerged into the courtyard.
Their hair was white as frost, and many bore the marks of missing limbs and crisscrossing scars.
Initially indifferent, they crowded around Gu Dao the moment they caught sight of his face, as if terrified that he might vanish again if they let him out of their sight.
"It’s the young master! It’s our young master! He looks exactly like the eldest miss..." the elders exclaimed.
