Chapter 118: A Fight Still Has to Be Arranged
"Junior Brother, what are you planning to do?" Liu Xiangyang asked Ma Liangping.
Chen Huajiang also looked over. Though he had tried to reason with them indirectly, whether they would listen or not still depended on them.
If they truly meant to drag this out to the bitter end, Chen Huajiang would only accompany them to the end. His next step would be to take the legal route.
After having his shop smashed twice, Chen Huajiang was even prepared to pull some strings and have them sent in.
But that would mean an irreconcilable feud. From then on, he would have to watch out for retaliation from their gang.
Unless it was absolutely necessary, Chen Huajiang did not want to make things that ugly.
Fortunately, Ma Liangping nodded and said, "Senior Brother, let this matter end here."
"Good, then let this matter—"
"Wait, it is not over yet."
Liu Xiangyang had just begun to nod and speak, looking at Chen Huajiang as if he intended to brush aside the grudge between them, when Gao Yun cut him off. Her eyes were full of hatred as she glared at Chen Huajiang.
She had just been bullied by Chen Huajiang, and the bite marks on her neck still stung, filling her with fury.
She had never seen such a shameless man. In the middle of a fight, he had actually bitten someone!
"What? Do you still have something to say?" Chen Huajiang frowned and asked in displeasure.
"Today you outnumbered us and bullied the few with the many. That does not count as skill. If you have the guts, then fight one on one. Tell me, do you dare?"
Gao Yun pointed at Chen Huajiang and shouted.
As soon as she said this, the onlookers around them nodded and offered their support.
"That's right. This time, Boss Lin and the others really did bully the few with the many. That doesn't count as skill."
"Exactly. One side had so many people, while the other had only three. Winning like that would not be honorable."
"If you've got the skill, then fight one on one. We'll be witnesses!"
For one thing, Gao Yun was a woman, and everyone was somewhat inclined to side with her.
For another, what she said made sense. Bullying the few with the many was indeed no real ability, and it was against the proper rules.
As the crowd jeered, Gao Yun looked at Chen Huajiang with ever greater arrogance.
Chen Huajiang paid her no mind. Instead, he looked toward Liu Xiangyang and Ma Liangping. Seeing that both of them were also siding with Gao Yun, he understood.
"Fine. But the three of you are trained fighters, and you came prepared. We need to make some preparations too.
"How about this: tomorrow, let's arrange a place and have a one-on-one match."
After thinking it over, Chen Huajiang said.
"All right. Anyway, your shop is right here. You can't run away from the temple if the monk can not run away from the shrine."
"Tomorrow afternoon, at the entrance to Anrong Alley near the glass factory, we'll wait for you. If you dare not come, hmph!"
Gao Yun snorted coldly. She gave Chen Huajiang a long look before turning and leaving.
Once the three of them had gone, the crowd, seeing there was no more show to watch, also dispersed.
"This has become quite a mess. Sigh, Huajiang, are you really going to duel them tomorrow?" Lin Laogen walked over. Part of him was relieved that this matter had been settled, yet part of him was worried about tomorrow.
"Dad, don't worry. A one-on-one fight is not what you think. Since they brought it up, they are already letting the matter go."
"So-called duels are nothing more than face-saving words, like when someone suffers a loss and shouts, 'May the blue mountains remain unchanged and the green waters flow forever.' It means the same thing."
Chen Huajiang smiled as he spoke, soothing his father-in-law.
"That is exactly the point. If you lose and do not throw out a few hard words, then you lose all face."
"When the time comes, just send a few brothers over to make a show of it, and that will do."
Black Tiger also came over and chimed in.
With the two of them saying so, Lin Laogen finally nodded and relaxed, then went to help Lin Guoshan tidy up the shop.
Lin Jiayin also let out a breath of relief. She had been worried too, but seeing the ease on her husband's face, and hearing the earlier explanation, she naturally felt reassured.
After that, everyone pitched in and restored Lin Guoshan's shop.
The tables and chairs could still be used. The coal stove had been dented, but it could be hammered straight again. The shattered bowls, chopsticks, and plates, along with the ingredients and seasonings scattered all over the floor, however, all had to be arranged anew.
"I told you not to cause trouble. I told you not to cause trouble, but you insisted, insisted on causing trouble.
"Look at what you've made of yourself now. Have any of those worthless friends of yours come to help you?"
Once the shop was finally cleaned up, Lin Laogen gave his son Lin Guoshan a severe scolding, his face full of disappointment and frustration.
This time, though, Lin Guoshan had learned his lesson. Though he was being cursed at, he did not dare talk back. He kept his head down and said nothing.
The whole thing went on for about half an hour before Chen Huajiang took his leave and departed with his wife.
There were some things he had not told his father-in-law or his wife, because he did not want them to worry.
Tomorrow's one-on-one showdown at the glass factory was not something Chen Huajiang planned to bluff through, nor did he intend to lose. He meant to win.
After resting for a day, Chen Huajiang made his usual rounds of the shops the next morning and spoke with Liang Long and the others at noon.
In the afternoon, the six of them rode their bicycles together toward the glass factory.
At the entrance to Anrong Alley, Liu Xiangyang and the other two were already prepared, leaning beneath a banyan tree and waiting for the other side to appear.
Not far away stood another middle-aged man, about fifty years old, wearing a Zhongshan suit. He was tall, with thick brows and large eyes, and had a cigarette hanging from his lips.
His name was Gao Dayuan, Gao Yun's father. Though he was deeply displeased and unwilling, since his daughter had arranged a fight, he had no choice but to come and stand behind her.
Of course, he also wanted to see exactly which bastard had dared to bully his daughter.
"Senior Brother, they won't stand us up, will they?" Ma Liangping glanced at his watch. It was already three-thirty, and the other side still had not shown up. He was growing anxious and irritated.
"Hmph. If they dare not come, we'll smash their shop again next time!" Gao Yun said angrily, instinctively reaching up to touch her neck.
She had already put plaster on it when she got home yesterday. It did not hurt anymore, but it only made the fire in her heart burn hotter.
Ring ring ring—
"They're here!"
It was them!
At that moment, several bicycles came riding along the path from the glass factory toward this side. It was Chen Huajiang and the others.
This place really was hard to find. The roads here ran in all directions.
"If I'd known, yesterday's challenge should have been set right at the glass factory gate. That would have saved us from wandering around asking for directions."
Chen Huajiang got off his bicycle, glanced over at them, and said with a smile.
"Hmph, enough nonsense."
"Since you're here, let's begin. Which one of you goes first?"
Ma Liangping jumped out, looked over Chen Huajiang and the others, and rolled up his sleeves as he spoke.
