Chapter 129: The Catastrophe That Destroyed the Sect (Part Five)
“Heh, it seems Ninth Sister has no intention of compromising. In that case, we have nothing more to discuss. Uncle Red Wood, Uncle Black Rock, make your move. Do not kill them all—leave a few alive, so they can personally witness how their descendants slaughter one another merely to cling to life,” Ji Shengrui ordered calmly.
When Ji Shengrui spoke those words, his expression remained utterly composed, with even the faintest smile resting upon his face. His smile was noble and elegant, and his voice was measured and unhurried. In his eyes, harvesting the lives of an entire sect seemed no more significant than brushing dust from his sleeve.
The tautest strings in Ji Mo’s heart snapped the instant Ji Shengrui uttered those words. Rage roared uncontrollably within her. She shoved Su Ye aside, and brilliant light burst from her eyes. The life force that had seemed so feeble suddenly surged dozens of times over. The White Jade Flood Dragon Whip transformed into a silver flood dragon and shot out from her body. An unhealthy flush appeared across Ji Mo’s face as she sprang from the ground and mounted the dragon’s back. Then she shouted, “Kill!”
Kill! Kill! Kill!
The moment that word rang out, the entire sky above Xingwu Peak seemed to darken. The surrounding world was instantly filled with an indescribable killing intent. Ji Shengrui, who bore the brunt of it, felt a chill envelop him. The blood throughout his body seemed to congeal in that instant.
Ji Shengrui was both shocked and furious. With his cultivation at the Nascent Soul realm, he had actually been shaken motionless by a cultivator who had only reached the Foundation Establishment stage. It was an utterly intolerable humiliation!
Having grown to his present height, Ji Shengrui could count on one hand the number of people in the entire Ten Directions Cultivation Grand World—let alone on Mu Chen Star—who could stand beside him among cultivators of the same level. His noble birth and excessive glory had not only forged his domineering, ruthless nature; they had also nurtured an unparalleled arrogance.
Yet now, he had been forcibly suppressed by a cultivator who had only recently established her foundation. Boundless killing intent and fury immediately surged within him. Even if Ji Mo had relied on the power of the supreme treasure, the White Jade Flood Dragon Whip, Ji Shengrui still could not endure it.
With a furious shout, he produced a blue blade in his hand. It was no more than three feet long, its edge thin as a cicada’s wing, its entire body shimmering with a deep blue radiance. Ji Shengrui gripped the hilt and shot into the sky. The blade traced a blue arc through the air before viciously slashing toward the dragon form manifested by the White Jade Flood Dragon Whip.
“Roar!”
Little White was enraged. Though it was merely a dragon soul, and its strength had yet to recover even twenty percent of its former might, it was still absolutely not an opponent that an ordinary Nascent Soul cultivator could withstand. No matter how heaven-defying that cultivator’s talent might be, faced with the blade intent sharp enough to pierce bone, Little White showed no intention of retreating. It charged straight into the attack with its dragon body.
“Your Highness, no!”
Red Wood and Black Rock, who had been preparing to attack the people of the Moonwatch Sect, felt their hearts leap. Almost simultaneously, the two of them rushed forward and blocked Ji Shengrui’s path, striking together at the oncoming white flood dragon.
Boom!
The white flood dragon collided with them and was sent flying. Their figures also swayed slightly. It was obvious that in this head-on clash between two men and one beast, the white flood dragon had suffered a hidden disadvantage—but Red Wood and Black Rock had gained little from it either.
“Uncle Red Wood, you alone are enough to hold back the White Jade Flood Dragon Whip. The whip’s spirit has yet to recover even half of its former strength. There is no need for both of you to act together.”
Ji Shengrui’s shock and fury deepened, but after witnessing the collision between Red Wood, Black Rock, and Little White, he understood that his current strength was indeed insufficient to contend with it.
Ji Shengrui was arrogant, but arrogance did not make him a fool. To knowingly fight an opponent he could not defeat was simply courting death. No matter how furious he was at that moment, he could only suppress his rage temporarily.
Yet he was even less willing to see Red Wood and Black Rock restrained by Little White at the same time. Ji Mo’s body had already suffered severe injuries. If she were to watch the members of her sect die one after another before her eyes, she would soon collapse. Once Ji Mo collapsed, Little White, as her bonded divine weapon, would naturally suffer injury as well. At that point, capturing Little White would become far easier.
Ji Shengrui had been personally chosen by Emperor Ji as the next heir to the throne of the Ji Dynasty on Mu Chen Star. His status within the Ji imperial family was extraordinary. Although Red Wood and Black Rock were both renowned experts of the Ji imperial household, they could not casually disregard his orders. Thus, the moment Ji Shengrui finished speaking, Black Rock withdrew.
Little White had been driven back by the combined strike of Red Wood and Black Rock, and dragon fury immediately blazed within it. With an enraged roar, it wheeled around and charged toward Red Wood. Although it was consumed by rage, it had not forgotten its primary target: Ji Shengrui. Now that Black Rock had withdrawn, it would have to eliminate Red Wood, who stood between it and Ji Shengrui, before it could kill him.
Red Wood watched the violently leaping silver flood dragon with a grave expression, daring not to show the slightest carelessness. With a thought, a fiery bamboo staff appeared in his hand. He flung it into the air, and the staff transformed into a scarlet fire dragon that roared as it rushed toward the silver flood dragon.
“Roar!”
Little White grew even angrier. Though it was now only a whip soul, in life it had been an overlord among the flood dragons. In the earthly realm, no member of the dragon race with a comparable bloodline had ever appeared to rival it. Even with less than twenty percent of its former strength, how could a fire dragon formed from a mere spirit weapon possibly halt its advance?
Little White let out a furious roar and opened its jaws. A streak of white light shot instantly into the fire dragon’s body. The fire dragon formed from the red bamboo staff trembled, then twisted and roared in the air. Taking advantage of that opening, the silver flood dragon leaped beside it, opened its jaws, and bit through its neck in one snap.
The headless fire dragon immediately reverted into a bamboo staff with a section broken off, tumbling into Red Wood’s hand.
Having bitten through the neck of the fire dragon formed from the bamboo staff, Little White immediately pressed its advantage and lunged at Red Wood. Red Wood swung the staff through the air several times, and a pattern resembling the Eight Trigrams appeared before him. Little White’s charging body slammed into it, only to be deflected by an invisible force.
Little White’s attack had been thwarted. A vicious glint flashed through its lantern-sized eyes. It roared twice in midair, its several-yard-long body thrashing repeatedly before it crashed into the Eight Trigrams formation once more.
Bang! Bang! Bang!
Under its relentless impacts, cracks spread across the Eight Trigrams pattern. Ji Mo, riding on Little White’s back, was shaken so violently by the successive attacks that she vomited blood. Poor Ji Mo—no matter how formidable she was, she was still only a Foundation Establishment cultivator, and the Heavenly Demon Tempering Body Art had only reached the Eighth Transcendent Mortal Realm.
Little White shattered the Eight Trigrams formation and was about to pursue its victory when Ji Mo’s urgent voice suddenly rang out in its mind.
“Little White, quickly! Go save my master and senior brother!”
Ever since Black Rock had withdrawn from the battle against the white flood dragon, Ji Mo’s gaze had remained fixed on him. The moment Black Rock left the battlefield, he immediately charged toward the people of the Moonwatch Sect. With his strength, those present from the Moonwatch Sect had no ability to resist him at all.
The five peak masters and the Grand Elder of Spirit Sword Peak attempted to join forces, intending to take Black Rock with them by detonating their own cultivation.
