Chapter 113: It Actually Takes a Year?
“The strongest warrior of Elbaf? Don Krieg?”
Zoro tilted his head, his face full of confusion.
“Elbaf is an island located in the latter half of the Grand Line, commonly known as the New World. It is renowned as the world’s greatest power,” Nami explained as she emerged from the forest behind them with an elite group of marines. She had learned all of this from the library.
During the past two weeks of study, aside from navigation techniques, she had paid special attention to those unique islands in the Grand Line, with Elbaf being one of them.
“There are also some giant vice admirals in our navy who come from Elbaf,” one of the marines behind Nami added.
“The strongest nation in the New World in the latter half of the Grand Line, Elbaf?” Zoro’s interest piqued suddenly. If it was the strongest country in the world, then surely there must be many powerful warriors there.
“Hahaha, so you’re all marines? Why don’t you come visit me? I can offer you some roasted dinosaur meat,” Don Krieg said with a smile upon realizing Zoro and the others were marines.
Having spent nearly a hundred years on this island, he was genuinely delighted to finally have someone to talk to besides Broggy. There was no reason to fuss over trivial matters like identity.
“Miss Nami, this guy is a pirate. Even before piracy became widespread a hundred years ago, his bounty was as high as 100 million,” a marine quietly warned her.
“You should never say things like that in front of him, even if you know!” Nami suddenly raised her fist and lightly tapped the marine on the head, then shouted angrily.
She hated pirates as much as Law did, but there were circumstances to consider.
If Law were here, she might not have reacted so strongly to the marine’s warning.
But Law wasn’t here now. With just a few of them facing a man whose bounty had reached 100 million a century ago, there was no way they could be a match.
Bringing up such matters was tantamount to forcing the other party to kill to silence them.
“Hahaha, you humans are really amusing. Pirates and all that don’t concern me anymore. I’ve been here for a hundred years, and even if another hundred years pass, I won’t leave this place,” Don Krieg said nonchalantly with a smile.
“Um, Mr. Don Krieg, may I ask, how long does it take for this island to store magnetic energy? I feel like I’ve been here a while, but there’s been no change at all,” Nami inquired, showing the recording pointer in her hand, relieved that Don Krieg hadn’t taken offense.
“How long does it take to store the island’s magnetic energy?” Don Krieg squatted down and glanced at the pointer in Nami’s hand. After a strange laugh, he slowly replied, “Young lady, you’re a navigator and don’t know this? This little garden here takes a full year to fully store its magnetic energy!”
“One year?” Nami’s legs suddenly gave out, and she collapsed onto the ground.
What did a year even mean? She had known Law for less than six months in total.
And this island’s magnetic energy storage required a whole year to fill? That was like waiting forever!
As for herself, spending a year here with Law wouldn’t be too bad.
But there was an injured man on the ship who couldn’t wait that long.
No matter how skilled the ship’s doctors were, that man’s body simply couldn’t hold on for a year!
It seemed she had to think of another way.
If nothing else worked, she would have to resort to the clumsy method from before.
Using Saron Island’s permanent pointer and course positioning, she would continuously calculate to determine the route to Magnetic Drum Island.
But this approach was neither precise nor efficient.
After all, sailing the sea was never smooth sailing; once a storm hit, the route would have to be recalculated.
“So, young lady, since there’s plenty of time, why not come visit me first?” Don Krieg continued to invite.
Having not seen a living person in many years, he was eager to chat with these visitors.
Nami shook her head—not because she feared any strange intentions, but because she had no time for socializing.
Like Law, she didn’t want that man to die on the ship. She wanted him to live well, which was why she worked tirelessly calculating routes day and night.
Her efforts were not solely for Law.
Now that she knew it took a year to fully charge the island’s magnetic energy, how could she have the heart to go eat and drink at someone else’s place? She needed to return to the ship quickly and share this news with the Vongola family.
“Well then, Zoro, we’ll head back first. If you’re interested in this guy, you can stroll around with him. Since Law won’t be back for a while, we won’t be leaving this island immediately,” Nami said to Zoro.
After giving Zoro these instructions, she left a marine to accompany him and led the rest back toward where they had come from.
Watching Nami disappear from sight, Zoro then grinned at Don Krieg.
“Don Krieg, can we visit your home?”
Don Krieg, who had expected no visitors, instantly brightened.
“Of course you can! I haven’t left here in a hundred years, and I’m curious about what changes have happened outside,” he replied.
As he spoke, Don Krieg went over to the dinosaur carcasses and said, “If you don’t mind, I’ll take these guys with me.”
Zoro naturally didn’t need such food; the supplies on the warship could last more than a month without these dinosaurs.
Meanwhile, on the other side of the island, beneath a mountain of bones, Law sat face to face with a rotund giant, apparently having a good conversation.
“Hahaha, is this what the world has become? The Navy, the Seven Warlords, and the three-way power struggle among the Four Emperors in the New World. Back in our day, pirates weren’t like this,” the giant laughed heartily.
This large man was Broggy, another giant from the little garden, known as the Red Demon.
Though these boisterous men were pirates, Law did not feel any animosity toward them; he seemed to get along well.
But Law knew well he was different from this straightforward giant.
Unlike Broggy, who invited him to roasted dinosaur meat simply because he wanted company, Law had come with a different purpose.
Feeling a twinge of guilt, Law took out several barrels of wine from his system space. These had been strongly requested by Zoro after discovering Law’s special abilities, and now they served a new purpose.
“Broggy, we humans have a saying: ‘one good turn deserves another.’ Since you treated me to roasted meat, I’ll offer you some wine,” Law said with a smile, arranging the barrels in a row.
However, compared to Broggy’s mountain-like size, these few barrels and glasses of wine seemed insignificant.
“Hahaha, you’re truly an interesting human,” Broggy said.
Having not tasted wine for a hundred years, he naturally did not refuse.
Just as he reached for a barrel, a distant volcano suddenly erupted, spewing thick smoke into the sky as lava began to flow.
Broggy immediately stood up, gripping his giant axe in one hand and holding two barrels of wine in the other.
Apologizing to Law, he then left the spot without hesitation.
