Volume One, Chapter Three: Why Do You... Have Two Heads?
Fu Yuting laughed.
"I'm afraid I'll have to disappoint you, Mr. Bo. The wedding wine will have to wait for now."
Bo Xingzhou's dark eyes deepened.
Fu Yuting poured herself another glass, raised it to him, and smiled. "Whether it's wedding wine or not doesn't really matter. I just hope Mr. Bo can give us a chance."
This time, Bo Xingzhou picked up his glass, clinked it lightly against hers, and drained it in one go.
As his Adam's apple moved, it signaled that Zhou Ye had passed the interview.
Fu Yuting hurriedly raised her own glass and downed it.
The fiery liquid slid down her throat, spreading through her body, and the suffocating ache in her heart eased a little.
This glass of strong liquor, a symbol of her love with Lu Jingyan, was ultimately shared with a stranger who had nothing to do with her.
Fu Yuting poured herself another full glass. "This one is to thank Mr. Bo for the opportunity."
Zhou Ye also raised his glass in a toast.
"Tomorrow, I'll have someone arrange for you to start work," Bo Xingzhou said to Zhou Ye, then stood up.
He now faced Fu Yuting directly; his towering figure nearly blocked her from view, and his powerful presence seemed to thin the very air in the room.
At one meter sixty-eight, Fu Yuting wasn't short among women, but in front of him, she seemed petite.
Bo Xingzhou cast one last glance at the wine on the table, turned, and strode out.
When he was gone, Zhou Ye and Fu Yuting both let out a sigh of relief.
At the same time, a wave of dizziness swept over them, and they both had to steady themselves on the table to keep from collapsing.
Zhou Ye quickly reached out to support her. "You never drink, and you had so much tonight. You must feel awful. Let me take you home."
"No need. I came to see you because I have something important to discuss."
"What is it?"
"Terminate all cooperation with Lu Jingyan," Fu Yuting said softly.
She then looked at Zhou Ye's stunned face. "Also, find a few errors in the terms of my parents' company's transfer agreement. The company won't be transferred. Draft a new contract, and I'll immediately take over as chairman."
Zhou Ye was surprised. "How did your love-struck brain suddenly switch to business mode?"
"Don't ask so many questions. Just tell me, can you do it?"
"Making a few changes is no problem."
"That's enough." With that, Fu Yuting headed outside.
"I'll see you out."
"No need, I have something else to do."
She waved her hand.
Having settled the first matter, Fu Yuting set out to accomplish a second, even more important task.
With the courage lent by alcohol, she found things easier.
She was going to spend the night with a man.
Before her parents passed away, they had told her that only after she started a family and matured would they feel at ease letting her take over the company.
That way, should anything happen with the company, she and her husband could discuss it together.
So the other shareholders agreed to transfer their shares not just because she coaxed and pleaded, but also because she was about to be engaged to Lu Jingyan.
Her uncles all believed Lu Jingyan capable of managing the company, so it wasn’t really against her parents’ wishes.
Lost in thought, Fu Yuting turned a corner, her steps unsteady as if walking on clouds. Suddenly, she missed a step and stumbled forward.
Just as she was about to make a scene, a strong arm wrapped around her waist.
Caught completely off guard, she fell directly into a man's embrace.
In that instant, she caught the cool scent of sandalwood, tinged with tobacco. Perhaps it was the alcohol, but the warmth of his palm through her clothes felt especially scorching.
As their bodies pressed together, her skin felt as if it were about to ignite.
She licked her lips and slowly looked up, her drunken gaze blurry so she couldn't make out his face. Her voice was hazy: "Why do you... have two heads?"
The man's assistant, standing nearby, was startled by the scene.
He hurried forward to pull Fu Yuting away, but was stopped by his boss's gaze.
Su Han froze, looking at Bo Xingzhou in disbelief.
What had gotten into Mr. Bo today?
He had never seen any woman get so close to him before—close enough that her lips were almost brushing his Adam's apple.
Looking at his sharp brows and eyes, Fu Yuting, emboldened by drink, grabbed his tie and pulled him closer. With their faces mere inches apart, she squinted at him and asked, "What's your name? How much do you charge for a night?"
Bo Xingzhou gazed at her fair face, her cheeks flushed red, seductive yet innocent, his eyes lingering on a mole beneath her eye.
It was her.
His usually cool gaze darkened, his grip tightening unconsciously, his breath growing unsteady.
"No charge—but you'll need a certificate."
Fu Yuting hooked an arm around his neck, her mind growing fuzzier. She only vaguely heard what he said, and a smile curled her lips. "Smart answer. I like that."
And so, her second task was about to be accomplished.
Bo Xingzhou's predatory gaze fell on her red lips, his Adam's apple bobbing visibly. His hand, already at her waist, slid lower to her back.
The next moment, he swept her up in his arms, his deep voice possessive: "Consider this wedding wine in advance."
Fu Yuting couldn't make out what he was saying. The sensation of being lifted made her instinctively cling to his neck, and as she looked up she saw his throat.
His pronounced Adam's apple—so sexy.
She couldn't help but reach out and touch it, then licked her lips and bit down gently.
A muffled groan escaped him as his hand on her waist tightened sharply.
A peculiar thrill coursed through her.
She felt a warm kiss land on her lips.
Closing her eyes, she responded with innocent awkwardness.
In a heartbeat, the kiss went from a fleeting touch to a blazing fire, consuming every inch of her skin...
The next morning.
Fu Yuting woke and shifted, a wave of pain sweeping over her.
Only then did she remember what had happened the night before.
Hearing the sound of running water from the bathroom, she reached for her phone and saw over twenty missed calls.
She couldn't help but smile.
Lu Jingyan, always so concerned with appearances, would be anxious with a room full of guests and his fiancée missing.
But what did it matter?
Everything was just beginning.
Fu Yuting glanced at the bathroom door, listening to the steady sound of the water, and suddenly felt a pang of regret.
Had she been too impulsive?
She had no idea if this man was good-looking or not—would it affect her future children's genes? More importantly, did he have any diseases?
Still, anyone who could appear in Xunlou shouldn't have any questionable illnesses. But what if he had ulterior motives for sleeping with her?
At the very least, he should be a decent person.
Maybe she should test him?
Like those domineering CEOs who try to humiliate the heroine with money—see how he reacts?
With that in mind, she put on her coat, took all the cash from her wallet—about three thousand yuan—and was about to place it on the bedside table,
when the bathroom door opened.
Her heart leaped as she turned nervously, and when she saw the man stepping out of the bathroom, her body went rigid and her eyes widened in disbelief.
"Bo... Bo, Bo Xingzhou?"
The three thousand yuan in her hand suddenly felt scorching.
In that moment, her pounding heart died completely.
