Volume One, Chapter 93: The Considerate Ex
The light turned green.
The honking from behind urged them forward.
Mo Xingyuan withdrew his gaze and pressed down on the accelerator.
Su Li felt a suffocating heaviness in her chest.
She couldn’t quite understand why he always reacted this way whenever Bai Zhiyao was mentioned.
If Bai Zhiyao had been a truly considerate ex—never lingering around him, never intruding on their lives—she might not have cared. If she knew nothing, then so be it.
But Bai Zhiyao had a way of drifting into her sight from time to time, flaunting how different their relationship had been. As Mo Xingyuan’s current partner, why shouldn’t she ask a little more?
Anger simmered inside Su Li.
“The more you avoid talking about it, the more it proves there was something special between you.”
Su Li could not—
The light turned green again.
The honking from behind continued.
Mo Xingyuan withdrew his gaze and pressed down on the accelerator.
Su Li’s chest still felt tight.
She still didn’t understand why he always acted like this whenever Bai Zhiyao came up.
If Bai Zhiyao had been a sensible ex, never appearing in front of him or disturbing their life, it wouldn’t have mattered.
The crowd hurried out of the hall, eager to see how the young man with the flying beast would attempt to escape. After all, the army was outside, all equipped with crossbows—formidable weapons designed for long-range attacks.
Yan Mufeng smiled faintly, nodded at Zhang Ruofeng, and extended his hand to shake with Zhang Ruoyu.
“Why not just get a tub and cool her down, like you did for the general’s wife before—just immerse her in water?” Gu Jingfeng hadn’t entered yet, but after hearing the imperial physician’s words, he pressed his lips together and spoke calmly, his brows tightly furrowed.
Zhang Ruofeng still found it strange; it was such a coincidence to run into his grandmother’s birthday. What’s more, Feng Yuan, Yan Mufeng, Lu Jietian, and Dai Jun all happened to show up at the same time.
This helped Zhang Ruofeng understand his previous arrogance. Someone who cared so much about appearances was bound to be proud and overbearing.
“Don’t look at me. I have no idea when that coin ended up in my pocket. I didn’t think I’d need it when I came in, so I left all my valuables outside to avoid suspicion,” Yang Guang hurried to clarify when everyone turned to the only one who had ever contributed financially.
Song Zhi reached for the longsword in Luo Li’s hand, but Luo Li deftly dodged, eluding his grasp and warning him sharply with a frosty expression.
Ye Yaotiao was just about to get out of bed when the bedroom door was pushed open. Han Shaoxun came in, gave her a deep look, and then fixed his gaze on the wardrobe.
Ye Yaotiao finally understood. The photos of her and Han Shaoxun at the fashion show had been posted online by the paparazzi. Now, everyone must think they were a couple. Their performance had fooled everyone—she should have felt satisfied, yet there was an inexplicable bitterness in her heart.
Seventeen million a week—an impressive result. As for why this happened, it was hard to say.
Whether it was the thirteenth, fourteenth, or fifteenth act, each one had its merits.
All around, the lights glowed pink. The boss and her colleagues watched her with bright, cheerful smiles.
“I can’t believe this actually depletes willpower,” Tang Zeng murmured in surprise, relieved to sense that his will could slowly recover with rest.
Yang Duo’er, sitting nearby, was startled. She’d only come hoping to use their old friendship to get Liu Mang to sponsor her with a million or so—enough to tide her over back in Guan Miao Town. She hadn’t expected such a grand gesture: he’d set up a scholarship fund in her name.
Yet, under that fresh, ethereal appearance, a restless heart was hidden from all.
Marching forward, Tie Zheng suddenly became alert; beyond a meteorite up ahead, a cultivator was watching him.
Based on common sense, no one but herself should know Liu Mang’s phone number. Ordinary people wouldn’t be taking such a hard seat on the train.
After a lengthy discussion, Commander Zhang learned that the high-ranking barbarian was actually the chieftain of the tribe. The chieftain, in turn, was surprised to learn that Commander Zhang was an officer in the Ming army.
“My guess is, in less than three days, a real battle will break out. You’d better get ready,” Haotian addressed the group.
Driving along the road toward Dongfeng Town’s No. 2 High School, Yang Liushan thought, at this hour, school wouldn’t be out yet.
Given the choice between an adopted son—one she’d raised for over twenty years, entirely within her grasp—and a biological son who seemed wild and untamable, it was no surprise which one Mother Wen would pick.
