When Luo Feng asked me when I planned to leave Beijing, I calculated the time and told him to buy me a ticket for six days later. Luo Feng hadn’t expected me to be in such a hurry. He asked what we would do about the case in Beijing. I smiled faintly and said, “Within six days, we must solve the case. We also have to rescue Wang Yazhuo.”

Although I suspected Xuan Yi would appear again, a restless feeling gnawed at me—the longer we delayed, the more unpredictable things would become.

Luo Feng furrowed his brows and said six days was a tight deadline. He wasn’t even sure whether we could rescue Wang Yazhuo in that time. He asked if I was confident we could crack the case within six days. I nodded and told him to hurry and bring in the person I wanted to invite. Luo Feng said, “You’ve confused me. I thought the suspect I suspected was the same as yours, but your behavior these past two days has thrown me off.”

I replied, “Don’t worry too much. The culprit is clever and hasn’t left any evidence. Since there’s no evidence, we’ll create some. You focus on dealing with Wang Jianming. If nothing unexpected happens, six days should be enough.”

Luo Feng sighed but didn’t say anything further.

When I saw Z again, she was sitting on the bed, head bowed. I brought her some food and asked if she planned to stay here. Z shook her head sharply, saying she wanted to go back. I smiled faintly and said, “Think it through. I don’t have time to stay with you constantly. Are you really sure you want to go back?”

Z hesitated for a moment but then nodded firmly, saying she wanted to leave right away and asked me to accompany her back to Charlie’s place. She told me that after arriving at her room yesterday, she had already told Charlie she would sleep at my place. Charlie had been warning Z to be careful, but Z had hung up on him out of frustration.

“I regret not listening to Charlie,” Z bit her lip and said angrily. I remained silent and told her to prepare quickly if she was going to leave. Seeing my indifference to her words, Z shouted, asking if I wasn’t afraid she’d call the police. She still thought I was a cop and said she never expected me to do something like this.

I said, “Go ahead and call the police. I have my ways to handle it. I can even help you notify the media and tell them you slept with me.”

Z fell silent after my threat. After tidying up, she followed me out of Luo Feng’s place. The little one came along, and when we reached outside the hospital, I let Z go in alone. It was daytime, and if I entered, I might run into the police. After getting out of the car, Z walked a few steps but then turned back.

She asked me not to tell anyone about what happened between us, to pretend it never occurred. I knew right away Z was prepared to endure it silently. Without waiting for my response, she rushed into the hospital. The little one asked me what had happened between Z and me and why she was so angry.

I was unsure how to answer when someone knocked on my car window. Seeing who it was, my heart immediately chilled. It was Gong Yuanhai, still in a suit, wearing a seemingly gentlemanly smile. He told me to get out of the car because he had something to say.

Of course, I refused. I looked around. Gong Yuanhai’s sudden appearance outside the hospital was suspicious—it was probably with Tang Jia, but I saw no sign of her. I coldly said to Gong Yuanhai, “I remember I told you if you deliberately appeared in front of me again, I wouldn’t be polite.”

Gong Yuanhai’s smile faded, insisting he really had something to say and asked me again to get out. I couldn’t understand his thoughts. Because of his framing, ordinary people saw us as worlds apart. Gong Yuanhai was a respected associate professor, while I was just a rogue.

“Spit it out. Believe it or not, I’ll run you over,” I said coldly.

Unexpectedly, Gong Yuanhai replied, “Don’t believe me? Try it.”

Gong Yuanhai repeatedly tested my patience. Just as I was about to lose control, I calmed myself. Last time, when he deliberately provoked me, Tang Jia appeared. Gong Yuanhai was skilled at manipulating others’ minds. This time, he provoked me again, and I didn’t know why.

“Gong Yuanhai, I know why you framed me back then. That woman—I gave up on her long ago. You have her now, so just live your life quietly. Do you really think I’m afraid to move against you?” I asked.

He still demanded I get out. As I prepared to start the car, Gong Yuanhai said he was at the hospital with Tang Jia but not for Tang Jia’s business. He said Tang Jia had been feeling nauseous recently and had just come for a checkup. The doctor said she was pregnant.

The reason Gong Yuanhai wanted to talk to me was about this.

“Gong Yuanhai, you’re ridiculous. You have a child—that’s none of my business,” I said expressionlessly.

He said, “I can see you’re angry. You still love Tang Jia.”

I clenched my fists, almost losing patience. “I’ll give you three seconds to turn around and leave.”

He said, “You can’t fool me. You love her and you’re angry inside.”

I finally lost it. I opened the car door and slammed it hard on him. Amid the gasps of bystanders, I punched Gong Yuanhai to the ground and kicked him several times. He didn’t fight back at all. I vaguely sensed Tang Jia was about to arrive.

Sure enough, I heard her voice telling me to stop. Tang Jia ran over, and I glanced at her before delivering one last kick to Gong Yuanhai. Tang Jia shoved me away and helped him up. She was out of breath and asked why I kept causing trouble for Gong Yuanhai.

I didn’t want to respond. As Tang Jia was about to continue scolding me, Gong Yuanhai stopped her. He straightened his clothes and said, “Tang Jia, it’s a misunderstanding. I told Fang Han about our child, thinking he would be happy for us, but I didn’t expect…”

I didn’t know if Tang Jia was truly naive or pretending, but she seemed oblivious to Gong Yuanhai’s exaggerations. She slapped me across the face. I stepped back and dodged it.

“You two are made for each other. Gong Yuanhai, don’t force me to kill you,” I said, pointing at him.

Tang Jia said, “I believe it. Fang Han, you’ve changed long ago. You’re capable of anything now.”

I sneered, “You think I care about your opinion? For the sake of what we once had, I’ll remind you to open your eyes wide and see who you betrayed me for.”

Tang Jia was so angry she was speechless. Gong Yuanhai stood behind her, smugly staring at me, a look Tang Jia couldn’t see.

“Gong Yuanhai, whether Tang Jia has a child has nothing to do with me. I stopped caring a long time ago. Whatever you’ve done won’t affect my emotions. I simply hate you,” I said, then suddenly shifted tone. “But what we did together definitely affects your feelings. When Tang Jia was gasping beneath me, it had nothing to do with you.”

True enough, these words caused Gong Yuanhai’s face to relax, while Tang Jia stamped her feet in fury.

I didn’t want to get further entangled with them, so I got into my car. Gripping the steering wheel, unease crept over me.

I didn’t understand why Gong Yuanhai kept provoking me repeatedly. If it was just to show off to make Tang Jia hate me more, that seemed childish. Although Gong Yuanhai was despicable, I didn’t think he was that immature. As I pondered this, I received a call from Luo Feng.

He urged me to hurry back. He had just received a call from Wang Jianming, who said he wanted to meet Luo Feng and might arrive at his home soon.

I sped up. When I arrived at Luo Feng’s place, Wang Jianming was already there. They were sitting on the living room sofa. When I entered, their conversation paused.

This time, Wang Jianming chose to come during the day. The previous two times, he had come late at night.

He couldn’t be unaware that the police were monitoring Luo Feng. Coming now, the police must have received news. Two crime lords meeting would certainly make the police uneasy.

Wang Jianming was doing this deliberately.
