Chapter 51: I Only Want to See Her
Pei Wan had encountered all kinds of women who came to cause trouble for her because of Zhou Ci—whether for money or for true love, each of them acted as though they loved Zhou Ci to distraction. Never had she met a woman like Gu Shen Shen, who so bluntly belittled and looked down upon Zhou Ci.
She stared in shock, eyes wide, watching the elevator doors close, unable to recover her composure for a long time.
Pei Wan returned to the hospital room, where Qin Ying sat alone by the bedside.
“Auntie, she’s gone now.”
“Mm.”
Pei Wan glanced at Zhou Ci, who lay on the bed with his eyes tightly shut, feeling unsettled. Though Gu Shen Shen hadn’t shown any sign of liking Zhou Ci, Pei Wan still felt disturbed. The absence of affection meant it was Zhou Ci’s feelings alone—unrequited.
“What exactly is the relationship between them? Are you still keeping it from me?” Pei Wan finally voiced her question. It was something she would inevitably learn, but suddenly she could not wait any longer.
Qin Ying was taken aback, raising her eyes to Pei Wan. “What?”
“Ah Ci’s attitude toward her has always been different—nothing like those women he forgets after a fling. No other woman has been allowed to work by his side, but Gu Shen Shen is an exception.”
Pei Wan was no fool. She merely thought their impending marriage would bring more stability.
Qin Ying’s brows furrowed slightly. “She’s not particularly special.”
“She just told me that Ah Ci is nothing but an illegitimate child, and only I treat him as precious. How could such a cold-hearted woman ever love Ah Ci?” Pei Wan’s emotions grew agitated.
Her suspicions might be true: the ex-girlfriend who almost cost Zhou Ci half his life was Gu Shen Shen.
Qin Ying’s face darkened at these words. “She said that?”
Pei Wan nodded. “Yes.”
“What a vile woman!” Qin Ying cursed under her breath. If Gu Shen Shen hadn’t already left, she would have slapped her then and there.
The two women were engrossed in their conversation, unaware that the man on the bed had already woken.
“What did she say to you?” The man’s voice was low and chilling. Pei Wan instinctively fell silent, only then realizing he was sitting up.
“Ah Ci…”
“Where is Gu Shen Shen?” Zhou Ci had no patience for Pei Wan; his agitation was spiraling out of control.
Qin Ying jumped in fright, rising to try and calm the now volatile Zhou Ci, but he shoved her away with a slap.
“Where is Gu Shen Shen? Where is she?”
Qin Ying immediately pressed the call button for the doctor. Zhou Ci looked completely deranged, and Pei Wan’s heart raced with fear.
She watched as the doctor injected him with a sedative, saw the man who had just been nearly frenzied sink into unconsciousness, and stood frozen, at a loss.
Compared to Pei Wan, Qin Ying was much calmer, as if she had grown accustomed to such scenes.
“You saw it yourself. Even if he might become mentally ill in the future, are you still willing to marry him?” Qin Ying fixed her gaze on Pei Wan, asking bluntly. The implication was clear: if she wanted to back out now, it wasn’t too late.
Pei Wan opened her mouth, but said nothing.
“Enough. Go home. I’ll call for the psychologist soon.” Seeing her silent, Qin Ying dismissed Pei Wan.
Pei Wan frowned and left without looking back.
Qin Ying sat there feeling helpless. Gu Shen Shen was the root of it all, leaving her powerless with Zhou Ci. Whatever method he wanted to use to exact revenge on Gu Shen Shen, she would not interfere, as long as he could find redemption through it in the end.
Ten minutes before Zhou Ci regained consciousness, the psychologist, Sheng Ran, arrived.
“You should step outside. I’ll wait here,” Sheng Ran said before Qin Ying could speak.
So Sheng Ran sat and waited ten minutes until Zhou Ci awoke.
Because of the sedative, Zhou Ci seemed calm, but his eyes were hollow.
“It’s been ten months since we last met, Zhou Ci.”
Zhou Ci’s face was expressionless. “I only want to see her.”
