Chapter 110: Well, That Is Fucking Bizarre!
Inside Biyun City.
The Li family estate sits on the outskirts of Biyun City, surrounded by mountains and shrouded in mist, a place that could truly be described as having beautiful mountains and clear waters.
The three of them stopped at the entrance of the mountain range, preparing to continue on foot.
A mountain path, clean and tidy, revealed that it was regularly maintained. On both sides, sparse trees stood amidst a light, drifting fog, creating a scene that felt like something out of a celestial realm.
This path, known as the Path to Immortality, was the only way to access the Li family grounds. The surrounding mist and trees were not merely scenery but part of an intricate maze formation. Should any unauthorized person wander in, they would lose their sense of direction, effectively deterring petty intruders from sneaking into the Li residence.
However, before they had even begun to walk, Elder Li felt something was amiss. He frowned and remarked, "Eh? Where are the gatekeepers for the Path to Immortality? Why is not a single one here?"
"Could they have gone off to slack off again? Hmph, when we return, I shall investigate which attendants were on duty and dock a month’s salary to start with!" Elder Li Chu, possessing a sterner temperament, spoke with visible displeasure.
"Sigh, never mind. Our priority is to return to the main family estate quickly and deliver these items to the Patriarch. We can let those stationed here handle such trivial matters," Elder Li said, waving his hand dismissively.
Hearing this, Elder Li Chu nodded slightly.
As soon as Chen Xiang landed, he carefully observed his surroundings. While the scenery was pleasant, something felt strange.
It was too quiet!
Even though this was not the main Li family estate, it should not have been this silent. He hadn't even spotted a single bird or beast—excluding insects, of course.
"Two Elders, where exactly is the main Li family estate?" Chen Xiang couldn't help but ask.
Elder Li laughed heartily upon hearing this, then said, "Haha, Young Friend Chu, that is a question we cannot answer, for even we do not know the exact location of the main family!"
"Huh?" Chen Xiang’s eyes widened. The look he gave the two elders conveyed exactly six words: "Are you kidding me?"
Seeing Chen Xiang’s expression, Elder Li did not find it strange; he had seen such looks many times before when bringing others to the Li family.
He then explained, "In truth, those within the main family likely do not know its exact position either. We only know that it is situated on a massive mountain, so tall that it pierces through the clouds! The Li family is built above those clouds."
"Of course, it is not as if no one has tried to scout the location of the Li family, but that mountain peak is wrapped in a powerful formation and restriction. One cannot enter or leave, so they always return empty-handed."
"Every time we leave, we rely on a teleportation array. The focal point of this array is right here in the Lianyun Mountain Range, which is why we built this outpost to facilitate our travels."
"I see." Chen Xiang nodded. He had not expected that it wasn't just Li Hanwei who was mysterious; the Li family itself was just as strange. With such a massive formation protecting them, surely the Li family had nothing to worry about?
Seeing Chen Xiang’s thoughts, Elder Li added, "This teleportation array that leads to the Li family is quite large; it can transport hundreds of people at once. Furthermore, others can use it too. The array is protected by another formation that even a powerhouse at the Infant Transformation stage cannot destroy, which is why that pure land of the main family remains uncoveted by others."
Chen Xiang was stunned. He had originally thought the Li family was mysterious and high-and-mighty, but it turned out they had simply narrowed the front gate a little.
A teleportation array that others could use, protected by a formation that not even an Infant Transformation expert could break? One could only imagine how many powerhouses had gone there just for sightseeing!
Following this, Elder Li briefed Chen Xiang on the current state of the Li family. In his view, Chen Xiang was already a guest elder, and since he wasn't revealing anything classified, it was fine to share.
From Elder Li’s account, Chen Xiang gained insight into the Li family’s strength. Much of it matched what he already knew, but there was one discrepancy: the current Patriarch, Li Youyuan, had broken through to the Spirit Severing stage several years ago, whereas Chen Xiang had assumed he was at most a peak-stage Nascent Soul cultivator.
Li Qin'er had told him that her father, the former Patriarch, had died due to a cultivation deviation—a backlash from his inner demons—while attempting to reach the Spirit Severing stage. Chen Xiang had adopted this perspective, assuming the second uncle was also only at the Nascent Soul level.
Little did he know, Li Qin'er's father had rushed his own breakthrough because he feared his younger brother, the second uncle, would surpass him in prestige within the family after reaching the Spirit Severing stage. Unexpectedly, he failed and succumbed to his inner demons.
While they spoke, the three entered the Path to Immortality.
Once inside, thick fog obscured their vision; at ten meters, one could barely distinguish human from beast! Yet, it was clear enough to follow the path. When Chen Xiang channeled his spiritual power into his eyes, the scenery behind the fog revealed itself; aside from the density of the mist, there was nothing unusual.
The Path to Immortality was nothing special; the Li family had simply given it a pretentious name to create an air of ethereal mystery.
Reaching the end, a magnificent structure appeared, far more luxurious than the Feng family residence.
The vermilion-lacquered gate stood over ten meters high, adorned with green tiles and eaves. On both sides of the entrance stood stone lions several meters tall, looking extraordinarily imposing.
However, the gates were tightly shut, and the silence was absolute, making the Li family outpost—which should have felt like an immortal’s dwelling—seem eerie.
At this moment, the two elders sensed the anomaly as well.
Elder Li frowned deeply. "What is going on here? The Li family should have known when we entered the mountain range. Why has no one come to receive us?"
Elder Li Chu’s face turned grim. "This is highly abnormal. There was no one guarding the entrance of the Path to Immortality, and now this. Something must have happened!"
The two elders exchanged a look, immediately suppressed their auras, and flew off in opposite directions.
Seeing this, Chen Xiang also withdrew his aura but remained standing in place.
He was not idle, however; he cast his powerful divine sense out, piercing through the gates to inspect the interior.
The information that returned shocked him.
The vast Li family outpost... was entirely empty. Not even a single hair of a person could be found; not just people, but not even an ant was in sight.
This was truly bizarre!
"Damn it, I just wanted to teach Li Youyuan a lesson. Why is this turning into a suspense thriller?" Chen Xiang muttered to himself.
Between Li Hanwei’s strange attitude, the main family hidden in a mysterious location, and now this outpost—which guarded the teleportation array—completely devoid of life, there were simply too many questions.
Before long, the two elders returned to the gate.
Upon meeting, both shook their heads, indicating they had found nothing.
"Young Friend Chu, be sure to keep your aura contained. Do not let even a sliver leak out!" Elder Li reminded him.
Chen Xiang nodded to show he understood.
Yes, yes, I'll just watch you two put on a show!
