Chapter Forty-Seven: Beware the Frenzied Pipi Eel!
Everyone stared wide-eyed in astonishment at the divine beast before them.
The offspring of the White Tiger and the Sea-Jiao Dragon? How did those two manage to produce a ‘divine beast’ like you? For that matter, is it even possible for the White Tiger and the Sea-Jiao Dragon to reproduce? What about reproductive isolation?
At that moment, Chen Xiang’s face suddenly changed to one of terror. In the blink of an eye, he activated his Lightning Step and appeared right in front of Li Qiner.
His expression grave, he said in a low voice, “Qiner, be careful. Don’t get close to it. That thing has a way of burrowing inside!”
Li Qiner was taken aback, her face full of confusion. “What’s wrong, sir? What do you mean by ‘burrowing inside’?”
The cultivators were baffled by his words, and even the Rainbow Pipian looked utterly confused. What was this supposed to mean? Burrow where?
“Hmph, boy, whatever tricks you try, you’re not escaping today! Even if that person comes again, you won’t be saved!” the Rainbow Pipian declared in a sharp, forceful voice.
That person? Who exactly is that? This was the third time it had been mentioned! The crowd rolled their eyes in exasperation.
Chen Xiang ignored the creature completely. Instead, he turned to Li Qiner, speaking earnestly. “Qiner, you must remember what this creature looks like. This is a Rainbow Pipian. If you ever encounter one again, stay far away. And don’t ever livestream it!”
Li Qiner looked even more bewildered. Why must I run if I meet a Rainbow Pipian? Besides, isn’t this not a Rainbow Pipian at all? And what is this thing called ‘livestreaming’?
The Rainbow Pipian grew furious at being ignored. “Roar! You insolent brat, how dare you disregard me! Now you’ll taste my power!”
With that, its body blazed with light—though not yet blinding—and it opened its jaws wide, exhaling toward the sky. A frigid wind howled forth.
The chill surged across the heavens, as if even the air itself were freezing solid.
“How interesting,” Chen Xiang murmured, squinting.
“Sir, we have to leave now! That’s the world’s only mutated Primordial Tiger-Jiao, a being with all seven attributes. Its power has already surpassed its parents’. It once wreaked havoc in the cultivation world, until a mysterious figure subdued and took it away. I can’t believe it’s appearing here,” Li Qiner said anxiously.
Chen Xiang’s eyes gleamed. “It really is the offspring of the White Tiger and a Jiao Dragon? And it possesses seven attributes? Fascinating. Truly fascinating!”
The fact that the Rainbow Pipian had seven attributes—wasn’t that the same as his own seven-attribute spiritual root? This called for further study! Chen Xiang gazed at the Rainbow Pipian, deciding that his earlier idea of making eel rice would have to wait.
Li Qiner, seeing that Chen Xiang was not only unmoved but more intrigued than ever, grew frantic. “Sir, let’s go! This Primordial Tiger-Jiao is beyond us. Even Nascent Soul cultivators couldn’t handle it back in the day!”
Chen Xiang took Li Qiner’s delicate hand, patted it gently, and smiled. “Don’t worry, Qiner. I’m here, aren’t I? The Rainbow Pipian isn’t as strong as before. After so long in this place, I’d say it’s at most on par with a late-stage Nascent Soul cultivator.”
Li Qiner didn’t believe him at all—no matter how much its strength had waned, it was still not something they could face! Every fight with Young Master Li was both thrilling and terrifying.
At that moment, the chill wind conjured by the Primordial Tiger-Jiao swept toward them.
“Run!”
The other cultivators cried out in alarm.
In an instant, more than a dozen cultivators scattered, but they weren’t fast enough. The icy wind, laden with snow, swept them up.
“Ah! No!”
“So…so cold!”
“Help…!”
Before they had gone far, their screams were cut short as the wind caught them. Only a few cries were heard before silence fell.
The Rainbow Pipian then opened its mouth and inhaled. All the snow and ice in the air reversed course and was sucked into its belly.
The Primordial Tiger-Jiao smacked its lips in satisfaction, as if having tasted something delicious.
All that remained were a dozen or so ice sculptures, each frozen in a distinct pose and expression.
“Hmph! Now you know my power. How dare you disturb my sleep!”
The creature then coiled its long form, gazing at the cracks on the ground and the shattered ice crystals all around. With a sigh of lament, it said, “Ah, I finally managed to fall asleep after who knows how many years trapped here. Why hasn’t that person come to find me? Looks like I’ll be bored for a long time again!”
Just then, a voice rang out unexpectedly, “Oh? Feeling bored? How about I take you to burrow all across the world, Pipian?”
Startled, the Pipian whipped its head around. Chen Xiang and Li Qiner stood before it, enveloped in a golden light. Chen Xiang was smiling broadly at him.
The golden light around them was already fading. As the last glimmer vanished, there was a crisp snap—Chen Xiang’s Vajra Talisman shattered in his hand, dissolving away like smoke.
Chen Xiang glanced at the dozen ice sculptures, his heart aching. That was experience—hundreds of thousands of points—gone just like that!
He had used the Vajra Talisman to block the Tiger-Jiao’s icy wind just now. He hadn’t expected that a talisman capable of withstanding two full-force attacks from a peak Nascent Soul cultivator would shatter after just one blow. This meant the Tiger-Jiao’s current power exceeded the Nascent Soul stage, though it hadn’t yet reached the Divine Transformation stage.
“So, you really are the Rainbow Pipian from ten thousand years ago? Why are you so weak now?” Chen Xiang asked.
The Primordial Tiger-Jiao bristled at this, roaring angrily, “Roar! Boy, I can’t believe you’re still alive! If it weren’t for my long slumber and that person’s seal, forget about a mere Core Formation cultivator like you—even Nascent Void cultivators would be crushed in my grasp!”
“Ohh? So you were sealed? And who is that person, to be powerful enough to seal the Rainbow Pipian? Could it be he knew you were the favorite of women everywhere, and thus did a service to all men?” Chen Xiang drawled thoughtfully.
The Primordial Tiger-Jiao replied coldly, “Boy, let me say it again—I’m not some Rainbow Pipian. I am the Primordial Tiger-Jiao! And who that person is, is not for a lowly Core Formation cultivator like you to know. As for the likes of human women, why would I care for their affections?”
At this, Li Qiner murmured timidly from behind Chen Xiang, “Who says all women like it? I certainly don’t.”
Though the Primordial Tiger-Jiao had no ears, its hearing was excellent. As soon as it caught Li Qiner’s words, its gaze sharpened at her. “What did you say? You don’t like me? I am the offspring of the divine White Tiger and the Sea-Jiao Dragon, and you dare say you don’t like me?” Its voice, clear and ringing, sounded just like a boy of thirteen or fourteen.
Chen Xiang, of course, heard Li Qiner as well. Seeing the Rainbow Pipian’s indignant roar, he was astonished. “Well, I’ve seen shameless people before, but never one quite so brazen. Weren’t you just saying you didn’t care about human women’s affections? Now a beautiful woman says she doesn’t like you and you’re throwing a fit?”
Suddenly, Chen Xiang’s expression changed. He quickly pulled Li Qiner behind him and shouted, “Oh no! Qiner, run! Watch out or the Pipian will go berserk and burrow into you!”
“To be continued…”
