Chapter 84: His Possessiveness
Jiang Zhiyou frowned. "You’re saying Bo Jinxi won’t let you go back?"
Yan Feng was silent for a moment. "He’s probably afraid I’ll pester you."
Jiang Zhiyou’s expression remained calm, without the slightest ripple.
"You should return and get checked out. If anything happens, I’ll explain it to him," she said.
Beside them, Hao Zhen added, "Reporter Jiang, we all know you’re the Crown Prince’s girlfriend. Maybe you should ask him for leave first. Otherwise, our boss won’t be at ease."
Jiang Zhiyou looked at Yan Feng’s pale face.
At last, she picked up her phone and dialed a number.
When the call was answered, the person on the other end sounded a little surprised, even pleased. "Why are you calling me so suddenly?"
"There’s something I need to discuss with you. I’m at Paradise Resort right now. Yan Feng’s injured. I’d like to help him ask for leave so he can return to the city hospital for treatment."
Even though Bo Jinxi said nothing, Jiang Zhiyou could feel the atmosphere on the other end of the line drop sharply.
After a few seconds, Bo Jinxi finally spoke, his tone cold and heavy. "He’s injured—why are you the one asking leave for him?"
Jiang Zhiyou’s voice was even, but she explained, "I’m here today for an interview. A heavy object fell from the tower crane. Yan Feng saved me."
A cold, mocking laugh came from Bo Jinxi. "You two just broke things off yesterday, and today he’s playing the hero? Are you sure this wasn’t some scheme he arranged, a ploy to win your sympathy?"
Jiang Zhiyou was silent for a while. She glanced at Yan Feng, who sat in the chair, his face ashen.
Then she replied, "No, it was an accident."
In truth, Jiang Zhiyou had her doubts too.
But she quickly dismissed the thought.
The risk was simply too great. If a heavy object falls from such a height, with so many uncontrollable factors, someone could easily die if it was planned.
And Jiang Zhiyou knew that while Yan Feng could be foolish at times, he wasn’t manipulative.
He was arrogant, self-absorbed, insecure, and proud, but at heart, he was a straightforward person.
Otherwise, he wouldn’t have been led by Xia Ling for so many years.
Most importantly, Yan Feng had no idea she’d be there for an interview that day.
His shock and surprise upon seeing her had not been feigned.
Bo Jinxi’s voice was taut with suppressed anger. "Why are you so sure?"
Jiang Zhiyou didn’t hesitate. "Because I know him."
Yan Feng looked at her as well, a trace of cautious hope in his eyes.
In fact, he’d caught bits and pieces of their conversation.
The tower crane accident truly hadn’t been orchestrated.
He’d barely had time to think before rushing in.
When he came to, he felt a sense of relief.
He hadn’t been killed.
Suddenly, it struck him—perhaps this was fate giving him a chance.
The moment he shielded Jiang Zhiyou, he saw his own heart clearly.
He loved her—more than he’d realized.
He couldn’t just hand Jiang Zhiyou over.
No matter what her relationship with Bo Jinxi was now.
He still had cards to play.
The bond formed by growing up together, over twenty years of emotional ties, couldn’t be severed so easily.
Just like now, when Jiang Zhiyou could so easily say, "I know him."
That was proof of two decades of affection.
Jiang Zhiyou sighed.
She turned and walked out of the infirmary.
Her voice was tinged with resignation. "Bo Jinxi, helping him ask for leave doesn’t mean there’s anything between us, nor does it mean something will happen in the future. I’ve said it before—I don’t go back to what’s over. Yan Feng is just a familiar stranger to me now. You don’t have to target him because of me."
"And how have I targeted him?"
"You made a project manager live and work side by side with the laborers, not allowing him to leave without permission. Isn’t that excessive?"
Bo Jinxi laughed again, colder than before. "So he ran to you to complain? What else did he say?"
Jiang Zhiyou’s tone cooled as well. "No. In truth, I don’t care what you do. I just hope you won’t let your personal feelings get in the way. Paradise Resort is a massive project—there’s no need to mix in grudges."
Jiang Zhiyou was very clear-headed.
She had never considered reconciling with Yan Feng.
But when it came to Bo Jinxi—
Spending day and night together, she did feel a touch of confusion.
This man’s possessiveness was overwhelming.
Even after they’d set clear boundaries, he couldn’t help but cross the line again and again.
If this continued, something would break sooner or later.
Bo Jinxi sneered. "It’s just a leave request, isn’t it? Fine. I’ll send someone personally to fetch him."
With that, Bo Jinxi hung up.
In less than half an hour, Bo Jinxi’s people arrived.
He’d actually sent a helicopter.
It was just as well.
Driving back would have taken at least two hours.
By helicopter, they were in Rong City in less than thirty minutes.
Yan Feng was taken to Rui’an Hospital.
After a series of examinations, it was determined he had a lung contusion.
Fortunately, he’d been brought in promptly, or surgery would have been necessary.
Jiang Zhiyou arranged for his hospitalization.
Two hours later, Yan Feng had changed into a patient gown and was lying in a VIP ward bed.
Once everything was settled, Jiang Zhiyou said, "Rest and focus on your recovery. Don’t worry about anything else until you’re better."
Yan Feng lay on the bed, looking at her, and softly called her name. "Xiao You…"
Jiang Zhiyou frowned. "Yan Feng, I’m grateful you saved me. But nothing between us will change because of this, so don’t get your hopes up and end up disappointed."
Yan Feng’s gaze darkened.
It was as if she could see right through him.
Feeling awkward, Yan Feng changed the subject. "Don’t tell my parents about my injury. I don’t want them to worry."
Jiang Zhiyou replied calmly, "I’ll arrange for a nurse to look after you."
Disappointment flashed across Yan Feng’s face.
He had only hoped she would come visit him every day.
"Rest well. I’ll be going now," Jiang Zhiyou said.
At the door, Yan Feng called after her. "Will you come tomorrow?"
Jiang Zhiyou paused. "I’m sorry. I probably won’t have time these days."
How could she not understand what Yan Feng wanted?
But she didn’t want to get entangled in old feelings again, out of gratitude.
When she left the hospital, she ran into Bo Jinxi in the corridor.
His expression was stormy, as if he was sulking.
Still, he took the initiative to ask, "How is he?"
"Lung contusion. He needs to stay in the hospital."
Bo Jinxi was silent for a moment, then sneered, "Quite a price he paid."
Jiang Zhiyou shot him a look. "Don’t be childish, will you?"
Bo Jinxi stared at the woman before him.
She was still dressed professionally.
Though her beauty was striking, at moments like this, her seriousness made her seem especially distant and commanding.
Bo Jinxi knew it was unlikely Yan Feng had orchestrated anything.
But the incident had nonetheless pulled two people who should have been finished back together.
The thought alone made him inexplicably angry.
Yet he knew, too, that Jiang Zhiyou had no patience for him at all.
She was always thinking of how to draw lines between them.
Even in their most passionate moments, she was always clear-headed.
