Although Bo Jinxi knew these wolves were under Jiang Ciyou’s control, seeing them advance with bared fangs, he still stepped in front of her protectively.

At this moment, Yan Feng finally regained his senses. He too stood up and placed himself by Jiang Ciyou’s side.

When Xia Ling witnessed this scene, her body and soul seemed to shatter. “A Feng, how can you treat me like this?”

The four wolves drew closer. Curiously, each one advanced toward Xia Ling.

When Xia Ling saw the four fierce wolves again, she shrank back in terror.

Jiang Ciyou was now completely unhinged. She pinned her last hope on Yan Feng. “Yan Feng, save me! We’ve been together for three years, please don’t let me die—I don’t want to die.”

“A Feng, I’m carrying our child. You’ve heard his heartbeat, you’ve seen his little form. He looks so much like you, A Feng—for the sake of our child, please save me.”

Yan Feng looked at the wolves closing in, his face calm, but inside he was barely holding on. He refused to yield to Bo Jinxi at this moment, but his heart was in utter turmoil. Xia Ling deserved death, but not in such a bloody and cruel way. And there really was his child growing in her womb.

In the end, Yan Feng turned and grabbed Jiang Ciyou’s arm. “Ciyou, let Xia Ling go. She deserves to die, but not like this.”

His eyes were red as he pleaded, “Jiang Ciyou, be rational. What you’re doing is murder.”

“If you kill her, you’ll go to prison too.”

Jiang Ciyou’s face was expressionless. Yan Feng could only look to Bo Jinxi. “Stop her! Are you really going to just watch her commit murder?”

Bo Jinxi replied coldly, “I won’t stop her. But I will bear the consequences for her.”

The wolves drew ever nearer. Yan Feng’s composure visibly crumbled.

When all four wolves bared their fangs and lunged at Xia Ling, everyone held their breath. Xia Ling’s anguished scream split the air.

Yet, the expected bloodshed did not occur.

Jiang Ciyou calmly picked up her silver whistle and blew two notes. Instantly, the four wolves halted, then bounded toward Jiang Ciyou. They nuzzled her ankles, wagging their tails like dogs.

Jiang Ciyou bent down and stroked their heads, then smiled. “Just a joke. These are pet wolves; they don’t hurt people.”

Yan Feng nearly collapsed to the floor in relief. The corners of Bo Jinxi’s lips lifted slightly; he had already noticed they wore numbered collars—obviously raised by humans. Their fur was glossy and well-kept, a sign of frequent grooming. Only domesticated animals would allow people so near.

For pet wolves, temperament is everything. Some wealthy individuals enjoy keeping such animals, and every wolf is carefully selected. Any pup with a record of aggression is put down; those kept are often even gentler than dogs. Yet wolves outsmart dogs—keen to human feelings, obedient, and even skilled in performing. When Jiang Ciyou had them feign an attack on Xia Ling, they performed flawlessly.

He had only wondered where Jiang Ciyou acquired such remarkable specimens; their appearance and coats were exceptional.

Xia Ling, at last, breathed out in relief.

Jiang Ciyou walked over to Xia Ling, crouched down, and said, “Xia Ling, I’m tired of our fighting, our schemes and betrayals. I know everything you’ve done. It’s time we ended this, for good.”

Xia Ling, who had just relaxed, now looked at Jiang Ciyou in terror.

Jiang Ciyou smiled. “Don’t worry, I won’t kill you. You’re not worth going to prison for.”

“What do you want, Jiang Ciyou?”

“You destroyed my life. Now, you’ll pay with what you value most.”

Jiang Ciyou twisted a lock of hair thoughtfully. “But what do you truly value? The title of Mrs. Yan? Yan Feng? Or... the child you’re carrying?”

Her gaze fell upon Xia Ling’s belly. Xia Ling clutched her abdomen protectively. “Don’t you dare harm my child, Jiang Ciyou!”

Jiang Ciyou smiled faintly. “He can only blame fate for having you as his mother. Xia Ling, just this once, I’ll play the villain to you.”

She rose and addressed Yan Feng. “Yan Feng, didn’t you say you wanted to make amends?”

She looked at him coldly. “I’m giving you a chance.”

Yan Feng stood frozen. Xia Ling, near hysterical, cried, “Jiang Ciyou, you can’t do this! You have no right to hurt him! You’ll regret it—if you hurt him, you’ll regret it one day!”

She knew, if Yan Feng was the one to bear down upon her, the pain would cut far deeper.

Yan Feng’s brow knit tightly. After a long silence, he looked away, his voice low. “Ciyou, I never intended to keep this child.”

Xia Ling began to back away, step by step. “No, you can’t do this to me.”

But Yan Feng strode over and seized her. “Xia Ling, get rid of the child and go abroad. He should never have been brought into this world, and you’re not fit to be his mother.”

“Xia Ling, when you make mistakes, you pay the price. That goes for both of us.”

Jiang Ciyou left the villa on Mount Qingcheng and returned to Green Shade Villa. She said nothing on the journey; Bo Jinxi asked nothing.

Jiang Ciyou took leave from the television station and slept for three days and nights. The struggle with Xia Ling had drained all her strength.

During these days, Bo Jinxi didn’t go to work either. Whenever Jiang Ciyou woke, he was at her side, seeing to her meals. When she slept, he worked in the study.

Jiang Ciyou had never slept so deeply before. Of course, the medicine helped. At last, she’d found the answers to the deepest, most festering wounds in her heart.

But the truth was even crueller than she’d imagined. To think the one who violated her had been that filthy, vile wretch—just the memory made her nauseous.

At dusk, Jiang Ciyou woke once more. She realized she wasn’t in the third-floor bedroom, but in Bo Jinxi’s room on the second floor. The pillow still carried his cool, distinctive scent, which made her feel safe and at peace.

She sat up slowly. After three days of sleep, her strength was finally returning. Barefoot, she walked out of the room. The house was quiet.

Jiang Ciyou checked the time. She knew exactly where Bo Jinxi would be.

She headed straight for the dining room on the first floor. Sure enough, she saw Bo Jinxi’s figure busy in the kitchen. Today, as always, he wore a white shirt, and over it, a little bear apron.
