Chapter 7: Girls, Don’t Be Too Violent
“Did I break the law by teaching them a lesson? Why call the police?” Lu Feng looked at Assistant Chen in confusion.
“That’s not it, Young Master Feng. I was just worried they might hurt you, so…” Assistant Chen hurried to explain.
“I get it. Let’s get in the car and go.” Lu Feng waved it off nonchalantly and walked toward the Highlander.
“Yes, sir…” Assistant Chen replied, searching in his briefcase for the car keys as he walked.
Leopard Tattoo and the group of punks, hearing Assistant Chen say the police had already been called, were terrified of being arrested and struggled to their feet to leave.
“Move! If you don’t want to end up in a cell, get up now…”
At that moment, a police cruiser sped into the parking lot.
With a dramatic drift, the police car came to a steady halt, the tires leaving a ring of rubber on the pavement with a piercing screech.
Immediately after, a female officer leapt from the vehicle and shouted, “This is Grandma’s first time on patrol—if anyone tries to run, I’ll break their arm!”
The voice was oddly familiar. Lu Feng turned to look and, to his surprise, it was Su Muqing.
One of the punks, with a crew cut, tried to hobble out of the parking lot while the cruiser was still stopping. Su Muqing dashed forward and landed a spinning kick, sending him sprawling to the ground.
Only then did two more police cars pull into the lot. An older, portly officer climbed out, chest puffed out with authority, and barked, “Who called the police? Who’s causing trouble?”
Assistant Chen approached the officer and said, “I’m the one who called.”
The old officer sized up Assistant Chen, noted the suit and tie, and adopted a neutral tone. Pointing at the groaning thugs on the ground, he asked, “Explain—what’s the situation here?”
After flooring a few more punks, Su Muqing walked over and asked, “Assistant Chen, what are you doing here?”
“Miss, I came with Young Master Feng to pick out clothes. When we came to get the car afterward, we ran into these people.” Assistant Chen explained.
Leopard Tattoo still had his knife stuck in his leg—he dared not pull it out for fear of massive blood loss. Gritting his teeth through the pain, he hobbled over to the old officer and said, “Sergeant, it’s a misunderstanding, just a misunderstanding. We’ll leave now.”
“A misunderstanding? There’s blood on the ground and you call that a misunderstanding?” The old officer had seen his share of brawls—he could tell at a glance what had happened.
It was obvious two groups had fought here. One side had won completely and left, while this group was left groaning on the ground.
What surprised him was that the victors were actually just one person.
“Sergeant, it really was just a misunderstanding.”
“Leopard, your file’s stacked a mile high in my office. I’m warning you—don’t cause trouble in my precinct, or I’ll haul you in anytime I like. Now, tell me—who were you fighting with this time?”
“This…” Leopard didn’t know how to answer. Was he supposed to admit that a whole gang of his got thrashed by a single kid?
“If you won’t talk, we’ll discuss it at the station. Take them all away!”
The officers accompanying him began making arrests.
“Sergeant Chen, give us a break. Sergeant Chen…”
All the while, Lu Feng leaned lazily against the Highlander’s door, watching the commotion as if it were a play.
Su Muqing glanced at Lu Feng, then asked Assistant Chen, “Who beat up this bunch of weaklings?”
Assistant Chen hesitated, glanced at Lu Feng, and answered truthfully, “It was Young Master Lu Feng, but I guarantee it was self-defense—absolutely self-defense, not a brawl!”
Su Muqing was interning at the Tianhe substation, under the command of this old officer, Chen Deyong, who also happened to be related to Assistant Chen. Chen Deyong was a veteran in the force, skilled at reading people and situations. He’d known early on that Su Muqing was the heiress of Yun’an Group, so he treated her with great respect.
Since Assistant Chen claimed it was self-defense and the ones beaten up were all known troublemakers with records, even if it wasn’t self-defense, it had to be called self-defense.
Chen Deyong was about to speak when Su Muqing pointed at Lu Feng and shouted, “You there—come over here!”
Lu Feng walked up to her and asked, “What is it?”
“You’re suspected of assault and fighting. Come with me to the station to assist with the investigation!” Su Muqing declared, all righteousness and public duty.
Chen Deyong was puzzled. Assistant Chen had just called Lu Feng ‘Young Master’—this young man should be Su Muqing’s relative. Why did it seem like they were enemies?
But Chen Deyong was an old hand; he knew how to handle these things. Best to wait and see.
“I don’t have time.” Lu Feng waved her off and refused outright.
“You dare resist arrest?” Su Muqing glared at him, looking like she was using her position to settle a personal score.
“Xiao Su, don’t be rash. Assistant Chen already said it was self-defense. That should be accurate.” Chen Deyong tried to smooth things over.
Su Muqing’s eyes darted mischievously. She always lost her temper when she saw Lu Feng. In the past, whenever someone dared to bully her sister, she would go up and beat them senseless. But she couldn’t take on Lu Feng herself, so she racked her brains to find ways to get back at him.
“No way. He laid hands on people—I’m taking him in,” Su Muqing insisted, her temper flaring. She leaned in and whispered in Lu Feng’s ear, “Unless you promise not to force my sister to marry you, I’ll arrest you and make sure you end up in jail.”
Lu Feng feared nothing but trouble. He whispered back, “Do you want to know who bullied your sister yesterday?”
“Wasn’t it you?”
Lu Feng shook his head. “Yesterday, two people tried to snatch your sister’s bag and knocked her out. Want to get revenge?”
As soon as Su Muqing heard someone had knocked her sister out, the veins on her forehead bulged and she demanded furiously, “Who?”
Looking at her rage, Lu Feng thought to himself that this hot-tempered girl looked rather striking when she was angry. He smiled and said, “I can tell you. But I don’t want the hassle, so I’m not going to the station.”
“Deal!” Su Muqing agreed without hesitation.
Lu Feng pointed at two men among the thugs. “The one with the earring, and that blond guy.”
Su Muqing fixed her gaze on the man with the earring and the blond, her eyes flashing with a demonic ferocity. Rolling up her sleeves, she strode over and, right in front of her colleagues, punched the man with the earring in the face. “How dare you bully my sister! I’ll beat you to death!”
Thump!
“Aaah!”
“Sergeant is using excessive force! Police brutality!” The man with the earring and the blond, already cuffed to a water pipe, howled in pain as Su Muqing pummeled them, their faces swelling with each blow.
“Hey, hey—Xiao Su, Xiao Su, discipline! Discipline!” Chen Deyong rushed over to break things up, but caught a stray punch to the eye and wisely retreated, resorting to verbal persuasion instead.
At first, the two thugs tried to protest, but when their faces were beaten to a pulp and Su Muqing still showed no sign of stopping, they began to beg for mercy. “Please, Officer! Queen! We’ll never do it again…”
“Dare to say ‘again’?”
Thump!
