Xiuxiu's Doubts
Shangguan Xiao always felt that Xiao Ai was full of energy at all times, buzzing with excitement wherever she went. But whatever! Taking the towel back from Ouyang Qianyu, she smiled and looked at Xiao Ai, replying, “Yeah! But you guys are really slow! I’m heading off first. See you later.”
With a wave, she turned and left. Weaving through the crowd, she slowly walked out of the washroom under everyone’s gaze. When she returned to the dormitory, she saw Xiuxiu sitting alone on her bed, seemingly lost in thought.
Curious, Shangguan Xiao approached and asked, “What’s wrong?”
Xiuxiu seemed to be holding something. Upon closer inspection, it was a set of pajamas. When Xiuxiu saw Shangguan Xiao coming over, she quickly hid the pajamas under her blanket. This struck Shangguan Xiao as strange—why hide something so trivial?
It’s just a set of clothes, after all. Xiuxiu forced a stiff smile and, pretending not to care, said, “Nothing! Oh, why aren’t you wearing pajamas?”
Looking at Shangguan Xiao’s athletic wear, Xiuxiu felt puzzled. Shangguan Xiao hadn’t been there when the dorm assignments were made, but their class was assigned to share a dorm with Class B. Everyone knew that the students in Class B came from well-off families.
Every morning, each of them arrived at school in luxury cars. Just now, they had been mocking Xiuxiu’s pajamas! She lowered her head, too embarrassed to take out her cheap sleepwear, fearing Shangguan Xiao would ridicule her.
Seeing Xiuxiu’s gloomy expression, Shangguan Xiao facepalmed in silence. Looking down at her own clothes, she then looked up and said, “Is there some rule that you have to wear pajamas during military training? Can’t you sleep if you don’t wear pajamas?”
What kind of mindset is that nowadays? Really!
Xiuxiu felt a little embarrassed by Shangguan Xiao’s words and quickly explained, “No! I was just curious!” She waved her hands and smiled awkwardly.
In this dormitory with hundreds of beds connected together, Xiao felt a genuine dislike. The air felt thin and stifling. She sat on her bed and casually pulled a small notebook and a pen from her suitcase.
Without looking up, she said to Xiuxiu, “Why don’t you hurry up and wash up? If they cut off the water later, don’t expect to take a shower!”
Xiuxiu looked at Shangguan Xiao and forced a smile that was almost painfully fake. “Okay, okay! I’m going now.” She then mysteriously pulled the pajamas out from under the blanket and dashed out.
After she left, Shangguan Xiao looked up, crossed her legs on the bed, and propped her head up with one hand, lost in thought. How was she supposed to write this diary? She chewed on the pen tip, racking her brain but coming up empty.
Staring blankly at the dusty yellow outside the window, she found the diary truly hard to write. Should she write about how shameless Ouyang Qianyu was, making her look bad again? Or mention how that fool didn’t even know where to buy the same outfit she had? Hmm, maybe she’d write about that.
She wiped her face with her hand, biting the pen, deep in thought. Just as she was about to start writing, the rest of the dorm mates returned. As soon as Class F’s students came back, they all crowded around Shangguan Xiao, suddenly blocking out the light in front of her.
Frowning, Shangguan Xiao looked up at the group blocking her view, clearly displeased. “Why are you all standing here in the way? Move aside, move aside!”
Everyone obediently stepped back a little, eyes wide with curiosity, staring intently at Shangguan Xiao. Their expressions clearly said, “Don’t think you can fool us.” It sent a shiver down her spine.
Adjusting her posture on the bed, she spoke lazily, “If you have something to say, just say it! What’s with those bubbling eyes?”
But these classmates really did not know the meaning of restraint. In unison, they asked, “What’s your relationship with Ouyang Qianyu?”
