Eyes That Change Color
He used to wonder about it, only because he had managed to bring the level of danger down to zero. Over time, he grew accustomed to dealing with the troublemakers who sought him out, and no longer paid much attention to it. Now, as he looked back, he began to feel as if it were all part of a grand conspiracy—a contest for dominance—and Xiao had become the prey in their game. Yet as long as he was there, he would not hesitate to stake even his life to protect her.
In the past, whenever he dealt with those people, he would inevitably sustain some injuries. Xiao would always tend to his wounds, grumbling as she worked, “Did you get beaten up collecting protection money again? Look at these injuries! Honestly.” Her words were sharp, but her hands never stopped moving—carefully and attentively treating his wounds. Sometimes, there would be serious injuries, and at those times, her eyes brimmed with concern.
He could feel her genuine care for him in her gaze; it was never feigned. Three years ago, he left with his parents, leaving her to live alone. Now, he vowed never to repeat the mistakes of the past. He would devote all his time, now and in the future, to protect her, so she could freely pursue whatever she desired.
“Hmm!” Just then, Xiao, who had been sleeping soundly, slowly awakened. She opened her eyes, her gaze unfocused, her mind still adrift in a haze. She looked around in confusion, her eyes settling on the two people beside her and staring at them intently.
The instructor could hardly believe what he saw—Xiao’s eyes had changed color! What should have been black irises had turned a vivid purple. Her already exquisite face seemed even more flawless and enchanting because of those eyes; anyone who glanced at her would find it impossible to look away.
He pointed at Xiao in astonishment, unable to describe his feelings in words. All he could do was widen his eyes, for in this humble room, Xiao seemed like a celestial being who had accidentally wandered into the mortal world.
Her long jet-black hair flowed like silk, and her simple school uniform appeared unusually noble on her. Half-reclined on the bed, her expression was dazed, her purple eyes drawing every gaze. Anyone who saw her could not resist her allure; she was beautiful beyond compare.
It was afternoon, with the sun streaming brightly through the window, bathing everything in the room in a golden glow. Everything sparkled brilliantly. Xiao took a while to fully awaken from her slumber, sluggishly shaking her heavy head as she tried to clear the sleepiness.
She finally remembered the wild chase she had just survived—the rescue by Ouyang Qianyu, and the instructor, who had also lent significant help. Her eyes swept around the room, landing on the instructor.
He was pointing at her, his face filled with disbelief. Xiao felt exasperated. Was this instructor all appearance and no substance? He looked like a model of professionalism, yet now his expression was as if he had seen something extraordinary. He kept pointing at her—had she done something outrageous while she slept? She really couldn’t figure it out, and asked in confusion, “Did I do something? Why do you both look as if you’ve seen a ghost?”
