The moment her mother was mentioned, the arrogant girl’s ego soared to the heavens. She boasted haughtily, "You call me overbearing? My family, the Li family, is one of the most prominent in this entire school! To think I have to share a dormitory with paupers like you—it’s absolutely disgusting!"

The others were far from pleased. Their families might not be as wealthy as hers, but they were certainly not paupers!

Her words made them want to tear her mouth apart. Xiao glanced at the people around her, stifling a laugh, though she kept a nonchalant expression on her face. "Oh! So your family is just so~ rich, are they?"

She dragged out the word "rich" so deliberately that the students of Class F, previously filled with indignation, couldn't help but chuckle. This Shangguan Xiao was truly a character!

After glancing at the crowd, Xiao continued, "They say trees need bark to survive, and humans need shame to face the world. A tree without bark will surely die, but a person without shame is invincible! Since you are so shameless, you must be the most invincible person in the whole school!"

The others nodded in agreement; it was perfectly put! Who cared about her measly money? She spent her days relying on her father, the chairman, to bully other students, yet acted like a fawning lapdog toward those even wealthier than her.

And she dared to look down on them? They didn't want to share a room with her either! Li Yaorao glared at Shangguan Xiao with eyes full of sparks, her fists clenched tight. Fury twisted her face until she looked like an eighty-year-old crone.

Whether it was through her words or her actions, Shangguan Xiao always managed to infuriate Li Yaorao to the brink of collapse. The others could hardly resist clapping in approval. Incensed and having forgotten her previous lesson, Li Yaorao swung her hand to strike, only for Xiao to easily catch her arm.

In one fluid motion, Xiao pinned her against the door. Effortlessly holding her there with a single hand, Xiao shook her head and sighed, "My, my! Young people these days are just so impulsive!" Pinned to the door, Li Yaorao struggled in pain, trying to break free.

But for some reason, despite how slim and frail Shangguan Xiao looked, her strength was shockingly immense! Li Yaorao, weeping with rage, sobbed, "I’ll make you pay for this! Just you wait! Wuu-wuu..."

Outside, a breeze whistled, sending yellow dust dancing through the air. Shangguan Xiao looked at the young miss who had thrown the first punch only to end up restrained. She looked up at the sky, speechless—the girl had been the bully, yet now she acted like the wronged victim, and even had the nerve to cry!

Oh, how exasperating! Xiao curled her lip, released her, and turned to walk away. "Listen here, Miss Li-Whatever-Your-Name-Is, if you can’t handle losing, you’d better clear out. Stop throwing your weight around! You might just meet your comeuppance!"

Without waiting to see if it sank in, she returned to her bunk and lay down. Her hair, having dried in the breeze outside, was now completely soft. She closed her eyes, ready to drift off to sleep.

Seeing that the drama was over, the others dispersed to their own beds. They were exhausted after a long day; their backs ached and their legs felt heavy. With the added stress of the earlier incident, everyone fell asleep the moment their heads hit the pillows.

No one had the energy to complain that the beds weren't as comfortable as their own; they were just grateful to get a good night's sleep. The lights were extinguished, and moonlight filtered through the cracks in the wooden walls, bathing everyone in its glow.

It seemed to peer into the children's dreams, wrapping the sleeping students in its faint light. Ouyang Xianyu lay on his bed with his eyes closed, yet his mind remained unusually clear. He pillowed his head on his hands, Xiao’s every expression and smile playing through his thoughts.

They were separated by only a single wooden partition, yet he felt as if they were worlds apart—ten thousand miles away from each other.

Everyone thought of him as a god-like existence, but no one realized that no matter how high one stood, a strong person could still suffer if they could not reach the heart of their beloved. And his pain was something no one could understand.

In the darkness, only the sound of deep, rhythmic breathing remained. With his love for Xiao lingering in his heart, Ouyang Xianyu slowly drifted into sleep. In his dreams, they returned to the beginning, studying and eating together.

Shangguan Xiao always liked to pick the vegetables she didn't like and put them on his plate, and every time she did, he felt a warmth spread through his chest.
