The Childlike Mother

Listening to her words, Shangguan Han could not help but knit her brows tightly. Baili Meixi was perfect in every way except for this one flaw: she was never quite reliable. Whenever anything concerned Shangguan Xiao or the other members of the family, she would lose all reason at once.

Shangguan Han silently stared at the phone in her hand. Her mother was usually composed and steady in everything she did, yet only in situations like this did she never seem to know how to keep calm. She always panicked before anyone had even said a word.

Her already sunken mood turned even more gloomy.

Shangguan Xiong had just finished bathing. He was drying his hair, with only a bath towel wrapped around him. His well-built body was fully on display, and a few droplets of water still mischievously slid across his skin.

With his handsome face and bewitching eyes, his sharp features drew a unique, seductive air around him. The always expressionless face he had worn for so long was now lit with a blissful smile.

His tall and powerful build could leave any onlooker entranced, willing to give everything just for a moment alone with him. He walked over to his beloved wife and embraced her from behind, asking with a grin, “Darling, what’s wrong?”

At the sound of her dear husband’s voice, Baili Meixi hung up at once and turned around to throw herself into his arms. Seeking comfort there, she even let the sheet mask on her face fall to the floor.

Buried against her dear husband’s chest, she looked up at him with tearful eyes and said, “Husband, what do we do? Our baby is in danger! Boo-hoo...”

While he was comforting his wife, Shangguan Han gripped the phone tightly in her hand, sparks of fury almost leaping from her eyes. Her mood plummeted even further. That woman actually dared to hang up on her!

Her anger surged. She closed her eyes and forced herself to calm down for a moment before dialing the Shangguan residence again.

If she dared hang up on her again, she was done for.

A cold breeze seemed to sweep by with a voice of warning: But she is your mother. If she dies, you’ll have no mother left!

Shangguan Han’s eyes flashed coldly. Without another word, she launched into a merciless beating.

Ten minutes later, the poor soul lay in a pool of blood, twitching weakly. But by now, even if she still had a sharp tongue, she was no longer in any condition to speak. All she could do was wait for the ambulance to carry her away.

Her only remaining obsession was: Shangguan Han, you just wait for me!

And then she fainted.

At last, the call connected.

Before Shangguan Han could say a single word, Shangguan Xiong burst out with a devastating scolding: “You brat, Shangguan Han! I told you to let our precious daughter stay with us, but you insisted on bringing her back home. Now look what happened! You’d better return her to me safe and sound, every hair in place! You little rascal!”

Shangguan Xiong could no longer control his emotions at all. Right now, all he cared about was his daughter’s safety.

When Shangguan Han had gone to Saint S. Country and said she wanted to take Xiao back to the homeland for school, he had strongly objected. But his son simply would not listen.

With their family’s power and wealth, they naturally attracted covetous eyes. More importantly, Shangguan Xiao was the jewel of the entire family. Anyone with even a little sense of calculation would see that the greatest chance of striking at the family lay through their precious daughter.
