Chapter 104: An Inexplicable Victory
"The second question: If one day, your ex-girlfriend asked to borrow money from you, what would you do? Keep in mind that you already have a girlfriend at this point." Chaturamon did not comment on whether I-mon's previous answer was right or wrong, but proceeded directly to the second question.
I-mon replied, "That would naturally depend on the circumstances. If the breakup was amicable, then regardless of the change in relationship status, we are still friends. In that case, of course, I would lend her the money."
Chaturamon countered, "And if your girlfriend refuses to agree?"
I-mon said firmly, "Then I would break up with her."
Chaturamon asked again, "Why?"
"I don't know what defines a 'good woman.' However, if she refuses to allow her boyfriend to lend money to a female friend, that is certainly unacceptable. It shows she only cares about herself. Of course, if the boyfriend lends the money without consulting her, then he only cares about himself as well."
"If two people are both only concerned with themselves, there is no need to force them to stay together. Furthermore, if a woman is bothered by her boyfriend having other women's contact information on his phone, then perhaps we should consider the alternative: once two people are together, the man's phone should only contain male contacts, and the woman's only female contacts."
"But then the problem arises: the woman could use the man's phone to contact other men, and the man could use the woman's phone to contact other women. Does that mean we should delete every contact from both phones?"
"People have their own social circles; they cannot become isolated islands. If it truly reached that point, what would be the meaning of it all? To take it a step further, even if you deleted every contact from your phones, what about daily life?"
"In daily work, there will inevitably be colleagues of the opposite sex. While walking down the street, people of the opposite sex will inevitably pass by. How do you guard against that? If you take paranoia to its extreme, the only solution is for the two to retreat into the deep mountains and never come out again."
"Therefore, if two people cannot take a step back at the very beginning—where you consult me, I agree to your lending the money, and we move forward harmoniously—then there is really no need to force the relationship."
I-mon's words seemed to shock Chaturamon, who remained silent for a long time, as if at a loss for words.
Chaturamon asked, "But have you ever considered that the reason she acts this way is, fundamentally, because she is afraid you two will rekindle your old flame and abandon her?"
"First of all, one is an ex-girlfriend, the other is a current girlfriend; the priority between the two is already clear. That so-called ex-girlfriend must be lacking in some aspect compared to the current one. Otherwise, the man would not have broken up with her to find someone new."
"As for why she has such worries, it is because she is not confident enough, or perhaps the man is so exceptional that she feels she is not good enough for him. That is why she worries day and night."
"An exceptional woman will have many suitors. An exceptional man will also have many. If she is truly worried that her boyfriend will reconcile with his ex, why not try to fundamentally improve her own worth? Or, to put it another way, make herself more compatible with her boyfriend?"
I-mon's words left Chaturamon speechless once again.
Chaturamon asked, "But what if the woman is already exceptional?"
"If she were truly exceptional, she would naturally possess enough self-confidence. She would be confident that her boyfriend loves her more, and therefore, she wouldn't fear any lingering ties between him and his ex," I-mon responded. "Furthermore, if they were to break up, would an exceptional woman really fear being unable to find someone even better than her ex?"
Exceptional people never worry about such things; those who do are simply not exceptional. Only when one feels the other party might be better than oneself does one start to fear that their partner might reconcile with them.
It is like comparing two women: one is fat, ugly, short, dark-skinned, poor, and unkempt, yet bossy. The other is thin, beautiful, tall, fair, wealthy, and stylish; though she may be assertive, she consults you on everything and would never force you to do something you truly dislike.
Setting aside all other factors, if a man were asked to choose between these two, any man with functioning eyes would know whom to choose.
Chaturamon asked, "The third question: If you were the driver of a train, and five people were tied to the tracks ahead by a madman. Between those five people and your train, there is a side track, but the madman has tied one person to that track as well. The question is: which track would you choose?"
Just like before, Chaturamon did not say whether I-mon's second answer was correct, but went straight to the third question.
I-mon said directly, "This question has no fundamental answer. There is no difference between killing one person and killing five. However, if the goal is to minimize casualties, I would lean toward the side track. For no other reason than that there is only one person there."
"Your questions have all been answered. Congratulations." After saying this, Chaturamon's figure dissolved into countless fragments of data. A portion entered I-mon's body, strengthening his base state, while the rest transformed into the proof he needed.
To be honest, unlike the previous ten battles—even those that did not rely on force but on rules—at least in those, the rules were somewhat fathomable. But this time, I-mon could make no sense of it at all.
Chaturamon had asked three questions, and he had answered them, but he did not know if he had answered them "correctly." Even though, judging by the final result, he seemed to have succeeded.
"Forget it, I won't think about it anymore." I-mon shook his head, signaling to himself to stop pondering. Afterward, he exited Chaturamon's chamber and arrived at the door of the final Deva's room. This was the chamber of Vikaralamon.
