Chapter 85: Stirring the Public (Third Update)
“Damn, it’s actually Yibeast, the legendary player.” Yibeast had just stepped out of the login space, bringing along his Dragonmon (it had been over thirty-six hours since Dragonmon’s last death, so he had already respawned, though with slightly diminished stats), when a bystander immediately noticed his presence.
Ever since the last update, everyone’s name hovered above their head, so the moment Yibeast appeared, he was recognized by others. As mentioned before, many people had flocked to Dragonmon’s Small Town, hoping for a chance encounter with Yibeast and to hitch themselves to his rising star.
Watching as player after player rushed up to cling to him, begging to be added as friends, asking for… well, all sorts of favors, Yibeast couldn’t help but frown in displeasure. For one, they were currently inside the city, a safe zone—no matter how much he wanted to respond with force, he couldn’t. For another, after the recent events everyone had just been through, even if the officials didn’t punish him, these people would likely gang up and take him out themselves if he acted recklessly.
He was strong, no doubt, but these people weren’t brainless cattle. Even if they were, killing every last one of them, one per second, would take who knows how long. And if they decided to fight back, even the dumbest herd could trample him underfoot.
“Everyone, I don’t know why you’re so excited, but please let me through.” In the end, Yibeast had to back down and compromise.
“No way! If you won’t add us as friends, we won’t let you leave,” a random player shouted.
“That’s right, add us!” others chimed in.
“Add us as friends!”
“Add…”
Faced with this scene, Yibeast fell silent for a moment, then simply logged off. Instantly, his figure vanished from everyone’s sight. As for his Dragonmon, it gave a huge yawn and wandered off.
For a moment, the group of players who had surrounded Yibeast were stunned, never expecting things to end like this.
It was only because killing wasn’t allowed here that Yibeast didn’t take them all outside the city to be dealt with one by one. Did they really think a “good guy” had no temper?
Though Yibeast did have a desire to form a team, he wanted a real team, not a dumping ground. If he were to pick teammates, their strength would have to at least meet his standards.
Sitting on his hospital bed, Yibeast’s eyes took on a pensive look. “So, what should I do now?”
Afterward, he instructed his caretaker, “Mr. Lu, I’m going to take a short nap. Wake me up around eleven thirty.”
Mr. Lu nodded. “Understood.”
With that, Mr. Lu gently took the gaming helmet from Yibeast’s hands, and Yibeast lay down, soon drifting off to sleep. In truth, the day hadn’t been especially tiring, but neither had it been relaxing. One way or another, he was soon asleep.
Time passed, and at eleven thirty, Mr. Lu woke him as instructed. Yibeast entered the game again. The main reason for choosing this time was, of course, to challenge a dungeon.
With half an hour, if luck was on his side, he might encounter one or two Wizardmon. Even if he had no luck at all, the worst-case scenario would be spending a thousand yuan on a ticket.
With that, Yibeast set off with Dragonmon. There weren’t many players on the streets outside. Understandably so—there was only half an hour left before the dungeon opened.
Those without tickets were searching for one; those with a ticket were trying to get more. Besides, standing around on the street for hours, betting on the slim chance of running into Yibeast, didn’t seem worth it.
So after logging in, Yibeast hardly ran into anyone. Even if he did, with so few people around, as long as he wasn’t surrounded, it was nothing to worry about.
Without delay, Yibeast left Dragonmon’s Small Town and headed directly for the level 14 to 16 leveling zone.
Wizardmon could only be found in leveling zones. Their combat power varied by area. Naturally, the Wizardmon in the level 14 to 16 zone were much stronger than those in lower-level zones.
The main reason Yibeast came here, however, was that there were fewer players around. Anyone could enter a higher-level zone, regardless of their own level, but coming here without the strength to back it up was risky. Only elite players generally ventured into such areas.
And elites were few and far between. Fewer people meant a lower chance of being noticed. If anyone did spot Yibeast, whatever their intentions, they’d only waste his time.
Thus, Yibeast set foot in the leveling zone—a stretch of grassland where the main monsters were Garurumon. This area had a higher level than the one with Greymon, so the Garurumon here were individually stronger.
But Yibeast wasn’t here for Garurumon; he was after Wizardmon. With time running short, he had no desire to waste a moment.
Time slipped by. In the blink of an eye, only five minutes remained before noon. It would be impossible not to feel a bit anxious, but in the end, there was little real worry—he still had a backup plan at the trading house.
“Let’s hope I find one…” Yibeast muttered, quickening his pace instead of slowing down.
If you can get something without paying, who wouldn’t want to? So until the very last second, Yibeast refused to give up.
Just then, a gray thundercloud appeared above Yibeast’s head, and a bolt of lightning shot down toward him. At that moment, a smile flickered at the corner of his lips.
